New Delhi, May 1(UNI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condemned the Gadchiroli IED blast triggered by Maoists in which at least 16 security personnel were killed.

Gandhi tweeted that he is pained to learn about the Gadchiroli blast and added, 'I express deep sorrow and condolence towards the bereaved family.'

The blast took place when the jawans were out on an operation. Just when the two vehicles of the security forces were passing through the Dadapur Road towards Korchi, located about 250 km from Nagpur, the Maoists triggered the blast.

The incident comes hours after Maoists torched 25 vehicles at a road construction site in Kurkheda of Gadchiroli district at around 3:30 am on Wednesday. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh termed the act as of cowardice and desperation.
