BJP making Congress' mistake by portraying Narendra Modi as India: Mayawati

Lucknow, Apr 4 (IBNS): Training her guns at the two largest political parties of the country once again, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making a mistake by portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi as India quite similar to what Congress did years ago.

Equating BJP and Congress, Mayawati, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, tweeted, "By portraying Modi is India & India is Modi, the BJP/RSS are committing the same mistake & insulting India & democracy which the Congress had done earlier by declaring Indira is India & India is Indira. A huge pity & most condemnable. People should not forgive them for this sin.

Sending a strong message to the Opposition from Kolkata's Brigade rally on Wednesday, Modi said rival parties which were so far opposing him have now started to speak against the nation, with a reference to the Balakot airstrike which was conducted by the Indian Air Force post-Pulwama terror attack.

Several opposition political parties had raised doubts over the number of terrorists killed in the airstrike.

Not just BJP, Mayawati is not having any good terms also with Congress which is fighting solo in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Arch-rivals- BSP and Samajwadi Party (SP)- and Rashtriya Lok Dal have joined hands to oust the BJP from Centre.

The first phase of Lok Sabha polls will begin on Apr 11.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had swept Uttar Pradesh by winning 71 out of 80 seats while BSP had failed to open its account.
