Congress names first list of candidates for Lok Sabha polls, Sonia Gandhi to contest from Rae Bareli

New Delhi, Mar 8 (IBNS): Ending all speculations over Sonia Gandhi's retirement, the Congress party has announced that she will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Rae Bareli seat in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress party chief Rahul Gandhi will once again fight the polls from Amethi seat.

The Congress announced  its first list of 15 Lok Sabha candidates on Thursday.

The list contains 11 names from Uttar Pradesh and four from Gujarat.

At a time when UP will witness a Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in the polls, Congress fielded candidates from seats held by two parties.

It also include Badaun which is currently represented by Mulayam Singh Yadav’s nephew Dharmendra Yadav.

Saleem Iqbal Shervani has been fielded by Congress from the seat.

Salman Khurshid (Farrukhabad), Jitin Prasada (Dhaurahra), R P N Singh (Kushi Nagar), Annu Tandon (Unnao), Nirmal Khatri (Faizabad), Brij Lal Khabri (Jalaun), Imran Masood (Saharanpur) and Rajaram Pal (Akbarpur) are the other candidates fielded by the grand old party from the state.

In Gujarat, the Congress fielded Bharatsinh Solanki (Anand), Raju Parmar (Ahmedabad West), Prashant Patel (Vadodara), Ranjit Mohansinh Rathwa (Chhota Udaipur).

Both Gujarat and UP are currently ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
