Assam police arrest 15 people for anti-India posts on Pulwama attack

Guwahati, Feb 22 (IBNS): Assam police have arrested 15 persons across the state for their objectionable anti-national posts on social media in the wake of Pulwama terror attack.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said while addressing a press conference in Guwahati that the police have registered 16 cases at different police stations in 13 districts of the state for posting anti-India comments on social media platforms in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.

“The Assam police have so far arrested 15 persons from different parts of the state for their alleged anti-India posts on social media in connection with the cases,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam Finance Minister further said that, Assam police have detected several social media accounts which are openly provoking cause of Pakistan and promoting anti-India posts.

“Assam police have registered 16 cases against 19 people. We are taking strong action against the persons who are putting up anti-India posts and will continue to take action against them. We have seen many youths from Assam, who have been arrested by NIA and other agencies for closely link with the fundamentalist organisations,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam Minister further said that the inflow of Rohingya Muslims to Assam has been dramatically increased in recent times.

“The Assam Police have detected almost 40 Rohingya Muslims in the state in past a month,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The Assam Minister said that, there are some social and non-government organisations which have started campaigning for the Rohingya Muslims and they are openly appealing to people for money and donation in favour of Rohingya Muslims.

“Assam police have swung into action. Whoever has entered into Assam, we have captured so far and they are now under the judicial custody. Many NGOs have emerged, who are collecting donations for Rohingya muslims. They are trying to give settlement to Rohingya Muslims within the territory of Assam. Although there are designated refugee camps, they can’t come here,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

It is to be mentioned that, the first Rohingya Muslim was arrested in Assam in 2009.
