Pulwama attack: Valley witnesses shutdown amid reports of harassment on Kashmiris while fake news also create panic

The Centre has issued an advisory to all states and Union Territories in the matter to ensure the safety of the Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, Kashmir is witnessing a shutdown on Sunday in the wake of the reported attacks.

In Dehradun, while some Kashmiri students were reported to have faced attacks, many staying as tenants have been asked to vacate the homes by the landowners in fear of damage to properties, media reports said. The police, however, said some of the news are fake.

According to some media reports as appeared in Indian Express, Kashmiri students have claimed that 12 of them were beaten up by activists from right-wing organisations such as the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Reacting to the incident, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: "I expect @JmuKmrPolice to take this up ASAP with their counterparts in Dehradun to have this sorted out. @HMOIndia must also take note of the same."

However, Uttarkhand Police issued a statement that several rumours of attacks are been circulated.

Urging people to not believe in rumours, Uttarakhand Police tweeted: "There are rumours that few Kashmiri girls trapped in a hostel in Dehradun for hours due to an angry mob. This is not true Police sorted out d issue There r no crowds Initially there was some confusion regarding slogans by kashmiri girls in favour of pakistan which was resolved."

In Patna, Kashmiri traders have told NDTV they were attacked by a mob.

"A number of men wielding sticks, gathered outside my shop. They raised slogans. I didn't even know about Pulwama attack then. But they destroyed the goods and beat me and the workers," Bashir Ahmed, a trader from Kashmir, told NDTV.

Following the reports, the CRPF, which vowed to avenge the deaths of their personnel, has announced helpline numbers to extend assistance to the Kashmiri people outside the states, who might face attacks and need help.

In a tweet, the agency wrote: "#Kashmiri students and general public, presently out of #kashmir can contact @CRPFmadadgaar on 24x7 toll free number 14411 or SMS us at 7082814411 for speedy assistance in case they face any difficulties/harrasment. @crpfindia @HMOIndia @JKZONECRPF @jammusector @crpf_srinagar."

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has also taken up the matter of students attack in Dehradun with the Uttarakhand Police.

"I had taken up the matter with DGP Utrakhand to take care of  security of students from Kashmir. DIG Baramulla is also in touch. A helpline is set up at PCR Srinagar and PCR Jammu," DGP Sh Dilbag Singh said in an official statement.

"Some Kashmiri people came by train today.Police facilitated their shifting & lodgement at Bathindi. Entire Jammu remained peaceful during day except a minor issue at Janipora in morning.Movement of some stranded Kashmiri people to Srinagar also being arranged," he said.

Militants rammed an IED-laden car into a vehicle carrying CRPF at Goripora, Awantipora on Thursday afternoon leaving 40 personnel martyred.

According to reports, the vehicle used by the terrorists was a Mahindra Scorpio and it carried more than 350 kg of explosives.

The attack left 14 CRPF jawans injured.
