Rahul Gandhi promises minimum income guarantee to poor if Congress is voted back to power

Raipur, Jan 28 (IBNS): With an eye on the Lok Sabha polls and winning votes to return to power at the Centre, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday promised that his party would ensure minimum income guarantee for every poor in the country if the Congress-led government is formed after the general elections this year.

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government, Rahul Gandhi said he was trying to create two India- 'one of the Rafale scam, Anil Ambani, Nirav Modi, Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi and the other of the poor farmers'.

While addressing at the 'Kisaan Abhaar Sammelan', Gandhi said: "We have taken a decision. This has not been implemented by any government in the world so far. After the 2019 polls, the Congress-led government is going to give minimum income guarantee."

"This means, each poor person in India will have minimum income. This means there will be no hungry, poor people in India," he said.

Gandhi also tweeted on the issue and said :"We cannot build a new India while millions of our brothers & sisters suffer the scourge of poverty. If voted to power in 2019, the Congress is committed to a Minimum Income Guarantee for every poor person, to help eradicate poverty & hunger. This is our vision & our promise."

Chhattisgarh is one of the state's where the Congress returned to power after winning the Assembly polls last year.

The Lok Sabha polls will be held in the mid of 2019.

Is the Centre planning a similar plan?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government is also planning to introduce a universal basic income (UBI) scheme before the general elections, media reports said.

"The government will transfer a certain amount into the bank accounts of citizens who are unable to earn an income," reported India Today.
