Guwahati, Sept 28 (IBNS) : Four militants belonging to the National democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) were killed in a gun battle with the security forces in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Sunday, police said.

Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from the slain militants.

The incident took place at Moinaguri area under Kachugaon police station in the district on Sunday morning, where the militants were killed during an encounter with the security forces.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the police and the army had launched an operation in the area where a militant group was hiding.

“Based on intelligence input, when the troops reached the area the militants started firing and heavy bullets were exchanged,” Assam police IGP (BTAD) Dr LR Bisnoi said.

Four militants were killed on spot and other militants had managed to flee from the gun battle area.

The deceased militants have not been identified so far.
