Three rhino poachers with arms-ammu held in Assam’s Kaziranga

Guwahati, Jan 3 (IBNS): Police and Kaziranga National Park (KNP) authorities on Wednesday night arrested three rhino poachers with arms, ammunition and other sharp weapons, who were trying to enter and poach rhino inside the national park.

According to the reports, the poacher gang had planned to kill one horned rhinoceros inside the park.

Based on intelligence input, the park authorities and police jointly launched an operation at Agaratoli area near the park and arrested three poachers.

Security personnel have recovered one modified 303 rifle with silencer, 15 rounds ammunition, one telescope and other sharp weapons in possession from them.

The arrested poachers were identified as Hanif Ali, Binod Saro and Rahim Kutum.

Divisional Forest Officer of the park, Rohini Saikia said that, based on intelligence input, police and forest personnel jointly launched operation and arrested the poacher gang, who planned to kill rhino inside the park.

“We had arrested them from the area under Agaratoli range office and they were trying to enter and poach rhino inside the park,” Rohini Saikia said.

Poachers had killed six rhinos in the national park last year.
