New Delhi, Dec 10 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday told Opposition leaders to facilitate proper functioning of Parliament ahead of its winter session, the last full session before the general elections of 2019.

Modi made the appeal at an all-party meeting in the Indian capital on Monday, a day before the winter session begins.

"The Prime Minister said that we all need to cooperate with each other on the issues of public interest. He underlined that in a democracy both the government and the Opposition share their inputs for efficient governance," parliamentary affairs minister Narendra Singh Tomar told mediapersons

"The Prime Minister also said that the government was ready to discuss all issues as per rules and procedures. If anybody wants to bring something to the government's notice inside the House or even outside, we are open to it," he said.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said in this Parliament session, his party would push for a joint parliamentary committee to probe the Rafale jet deal. It would also want to discuss the autonomy of the RBI, said reports.

Apart from the Prime Minister, Monday's meeting was attended by Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and CPI leader D. Raja among others.

The winter session, which will have 20 sittings, will end on January 8, 2019.
