New Delhi, Oct 3 (IBNS): The Met Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in three districts of Kerala on Sunday, media reports said.

The three districts for which red alert has been issued include Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad, located on the northern and central part of the state.

According to the Met Department, a low-pressure area has developed in the Arabian Sea, close to the Sri Lankan coast.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the fishermen to reach the coast safely as the predicted storm's trajectory will take place along the coast of Lakshadweep.

The state government has also sought aid from central agencies and asked for five companies of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The chief Minister informed that the the district administration has been asked to take necessary action to handle the situation.

Tourists have also been directed to not to travel to hilly regions of these districts.

Kerala has been hit by massive flood in August this year in which 443 people died while 54.11 lakh people in 14 districts of the state were severely affected.
