Kolkata: Blockade following a road accident hits traffic on Howrah Bridge

| @indiablooms | Sep 18, 2018, at 02:20 am

Kolkata, Sep 18 (IBNS): Vehicular traffic on Kolkata's Howrah Bridge (Rabindra Setu) was disrupted for nearly an hour on Monday late night due to a road blockade following an accident, reports said.

According to reports, a van of Central Rapid Police Force (CRPF) suddenly lost its control on Howrah Bridge and after hitting a motorcycle, which was coming from opposite direction,  smashed into a pillar of the bridge.

After being rescued, the biker was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

Following the accident, locals blocked the bridge for nearly an hour, hitting traffic movement on the bridge towards Howrah and Kolkata- both directions.

Later, a heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the scene and after dispersing protesters from the area and removing both the police van and bike,  cleared the bridge for traffic.
