Assam: Angry villagers kill man after he allegedly rape and murder married woman

Guwahati, Aug 26 (IBNS): Angry villagers chased a man and killed him after he allegedly raped and murdered a married woman in central Assam’s Nagaon district.

The incident took place at Manipurtup Bhakatgaon  area under Raha police station on Friday evening.

According to the reports, the accused named 35-year-old Abul Kalam had allegedly raped and murdered the married woman by cutting her throat with a machete while she was returning from a paddy field after providing food to her husband.

As locals witnessed the incident, the accused fled from the area and jumped into a river.

Angry villagers then chased and attacked him while he was trying to escape from the area.

Following the incident, locals immediately informed police and a team recovered the bodies of both the victims.

Moloy Acharjee, Officer-in-Charge of Raha police station said that, a police team had rushed to area after receiving information that, a woman was killed at Manipurtup Bhakatgaon area.

“We immediately informed the Village Defence Party (VDP) and reached the area. We recovered a body of a 45-year-old woman lying at the paddy field and found injury marks on her throat and suspected that, the woman was killed by using machete. The murderer fled from the area and jumped into a river and locals also chased him. The accused person also died and several injury marks were found on his body,” the Assam cop said.
