Kolkata, Aug 18 (IBNS): Police on Friday midnight arrested a local leader of West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for allegedly thrashing a Bengali TV actor over bike parking issue at Garia area in southern outskirts of Kolkata, reports said.

According to reports, strongman of ruling party, Gopal Singh, is allegedly associated with TMC ruled local market committee and auto rickshaw union, and there are several complaints of demanding extortion and creating brawls against the man at local police stations

Earlier on Friday night, Tollywood actor Sayak Chakraborty alleged that he and his friend were beaten up by Gopal Singh and his followers at a market near Garia railway station over motorcyle parking.

Sharing his experience, Sayak Chakraborty told IBNS, "I went to a local market near Garia station with my friend Sukanta Kundu around 10 pm. and parked my scooty at market's parking area where all park their vehicles."

"While shopping, I suddenly noticed that as many as five drunk persons, who are known as local miscreants, were vandalizing my scooty and other vehicles at the parking place and when I protested and tried to stop them, they attacked me and my friend," Sayak Chakraborty said. "During the attack, those armed miscreants were shouting how dare I parked my bike there and protested against their vandalism!"

"Besides damaging my scooter and using abusive words on us, they kicked, punched and lammed us with sticks. Few local people, who tried to save us, were also beaten up by the goons," Chakraborty added.

Following the incident, the young actor had started a Facebook live describing the matter and posted pictures of the attackers on social media.

"After being rescued, me and my friend were rushed to Baghajatin State General Hospital and we were discharged after first-aid," the actor said.

Sayak Chakraborty lodged a complaint at Sonarpur Police Station against the attackers at late night.

Local police officials said that an investigation has been initiated into the matter.

"We are probing the case and have already arrested main accused Gopal Singh while our search operation is on to catch his two close-aides, Bijay Mondal and Prabir Ghosh," an official of Baruipur Police District in South 24 Parganas district of West Benhgal told IBNS.
