Mamata doing vote bank politics over NRC: Amit Shah at Kolkata rally

IBNS | @indiablooms | 11 Aug 2018, 08:48 am

Kolkata, Aug 11 (IBNS): Attacking West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the illegal immigrants and vote bank politics, BJP president Amit Shah on Saturday beginning his speech at the Kolkata youth rally of the party said the huge gathering proved that there is going to be a change in West Bengal. He attacked the TMC chief over NRC as expected.

Chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai and remembering the Bengal's greatest icons, Amit Shah said: "Listen Mamata-ji. Listen with all ears. You cannot stop us or silence us. We will go everywhere. You cannot stop our voice in a democracy."

"She put up banners all along the route from airport denouncing us, but we cannot be anti-Bengal because the very genesis of our party is in Bengal," said Shah.

"We are not anti-Bengal. We are anti-Mamata and anti-TMC. I have come here to tell the people of Bengal what is NRC (National Register of Citizens) on which she opposed us. NRC is about evicting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in Assam. Should we not evict illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. You cannot stop us on NRC. We will finish it lawfully in Assam," he said.

Shah said the same Mamata Banerjee had created pandemonium in Lok Sabha over illegal immigrants. But now she is doing vote bank politics over illegal immigrants, said Shah

Shah said even Rahul Gandhi is not clearing his stand on NRC because of vote bank politics though Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister had signed the Assam Accord.

:"Is not there a threat from illegal immigrants? Are not blasts in Bengal triggered by them? Do you not want them to be out of Bengal?

Shah arrived at the venue of the party's much-publicised youth rally at the Mayo Road of Kolkata at around 1-10 pm. A huge crowd gathered at the venue to listen to Shah who is likely to attack the ruling Trinamool Congress and set the tone for the 2019 polls in the state.

BJP leader Poonam Mahajan speaking at the rally said the crowd is just a trailer and the full movie is still awaited, alluding to the BJP rise in Bengal.

West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said illegal immigrants of Bangladesh are taking away jobs of Indian citizens in Bengal.

Speaking at the venue of the BJP chief Amit Shah's rally, BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly said posters and banners by the ruling Trinamool Congress adjacent to BJP's displays to provoke them will not yield anything to the ruling party.

"It is simple to understand why they are putting up those banners and posters all over Bengal. They can spend crores and crores but nothing will yield to them," she said.

The entire episode of Shah rally in Kolkata had turned contentious when the Bharatiya Janata Party claimed that he was not given permission to hold the rally in the city by the Kolkata Police.

The Kolkata Police, however, granted permission to Shah for the rally.

India recently announced exclusion of about four million people from citizenship in the northeastern state of Assam bordering Bangladesh after a draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published.

The TMC has been opposing the move of the Centre.

Shah and his BJP are aiming to increase seats in West Bengal where it had clinched 2 in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

2019 is scheduled to host the Lok Sabha polls.
