We have to rescue our people from a dangerous regime: Sonia Gandi attacks Centre

Attacking the current Central government, Sonia Gandhi said her party will fight to rescue people from the 'dangerous regime'.

Sonia Gandhi said the current government is compromising with the democracy of the country.

"We are committed to make alliances work and we are all with him (CP @RahulGandhi) in this endeavour. We have to rescue our people from a dangerous regime that is compromising the democracy of India," the ex-Congress chief said while addressing the Congress Working Committee.

Manmohan Singh promises to support Rahul Gandhi:

Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he will support Congress President Rahul Gandhi in his task of restoring India’s social harmony and economic development.

"I assure Shri @RahulGandhi ji that we will fully support him on his onerous task of restoring India’s social harmony & economic development," he said.

CWC coincides with Parliament session:

The CWC is taking place at a time when the last full-fledged Parliament session is on before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress Working Committee meeting is especially significant after Rahul's sporadic attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the debate on No Confidence Motion against the NDA government in Parliament on Friday.

The Congress President has already indicated that his party will be working with oppositions and will eye for state-specific alliances ahead of the 2019 general elections.

In fact the CWC meeting was called to give Rahul a go-ahead on the same.

Rahul Gandhi's hugging moment in Parliament gained attention:

Rahul Gandhi made a unique move on Friday during the debate when he hugged the PM inside the Parliament, grabbing attention across the nation.

Later a wink by him was reprimanded by the Speaker.

Narendra Modi government wins No-Confidence Motion:

The Narendra Modi government on Friday defeated a No Confidence Motion brought by the Opposition by a big margin, after a daylong debate when the ruling party was attacked over defence deals and accused of not delivering what it promised in the past four years.

The government won 325 (Noes) against 126 (Ayes) in the voting at around 11 pm after the Prime Minister delivered a long speech presenting a report card of his rule in the past four years.

Rahul Gandhi attacked Modi, Defence Minister on Rafale deal, but his claim denied by France:

Targetting PM Modi directly during his speech on the No Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha on Friday,  Rahul said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lied about the facts of the Rafale deal and a secrecy clause under pressure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"Nirmala Sitharaman lied to the country over the Rafale deal under Prime Minister Narendra Modi when she said she could not reveal the details of the deal owing to a secret pact with France. There is no such pact," said Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress president said he came to know from French President Emmanuel Macron himself that there was no secret pact between India and France.

However, the French Embassy soon issued a statement denying what Rahul claimed in Parliament.

The French Embassy in New Delhi issued a statement to cite an India Today interview of their President and affirmed that the deal was sensitive and hence the details cannot be revealed.

The statement by the French Embassy put Congress in a spot and left Rahul Gandhi egg-faced.

It said: "We have noted the statement of Mr Rahul Gandhi before the Indian Parliament. France and India concluded in 2008 a Security agreement, which legally binds the two States to protect the classified information provided by the partner, that could impact security and operational capabilities of the defence equipment of India or France."

"These provisions naturally apply to the IGA concluded on 23 September 2016 on the acquisition of 36 Rafale aircraft and their weapons. As the President of the French Republic indicated publicly in an interview given to India Today on 9th March 2018, « In India and in France, when a deal is very sensitive, we can’t reveal all details »," the statement by French Embassy in New Delhi read.
