Blistering heat affected the normal life in Assam as the mercury touched the 38 degrees Celsius mark in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Morigaon.

People were forced to remain indoors following the heat wave conditions and the roads wore a deserted look in the afternoon.

Sanjay Shaw, DDGM of Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati located at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati said that,  the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha coasts has become well marked low pressure area and lies over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwest wards with height.

“Moisture supply to the northeastern region has cut off due to this system and so normal rainfall in the region has been reduced,” Sanjay Shaw said.

Sanjay Shaw said that, the heat wave will continue in Assam and other parts of the northeastern region for next 48 hours.
