On-duty police constable dies from heat stroke, two people die in 48-hour
Guwahati, July 20 (IBNS) : Heat wave conditions in Assam, following shortage of rainfall, has claimed a life in Assam as two people died in past 24 hours in the state.
According to the reports, an on-duty police constable died from heat stroke while another constable was hospitalized in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday.
As per report, the deceased constable, who is identified as Bhadrasing Narzary, and he was engaged in Assam Governor’s duty during the governor’s three-day visit in Kokrajhar and Dhubri district.
On the other hand, the other police constable identified as Lalmohan Barman is currently under medical supervision at the Kokrajhar civil hospital.
On Thursday, a 50-year-old man was died in heat stroke in central Assam’s Morigaon district.
Blistering heat affected the normal life in Assam as the mercury touched the 38 degrees Celsius mark in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, Morigaon.
People were forced to remain indoors following the heat wave conditions and the roads wore a deserted look in the afternoon.
Sanjay Shaw, DDGM of Regional Meteorological Centre Guwahati located at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati said that, the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and Odisha coasts has become well marked low pressure area and lies over the same region with associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwest wards with height.
“Moisture supply to the northeastern region has cut off due to this system and so normal rainfall in the region has been reduced,” Sanjay Shaw said.
Sanjay Shaw said that, the heat wave will continue in Assam and other parts of the northeastern region for next 48 hours.
