BJP believes truth must be hidden from people: Rahul Gandhi on govt's RTI Amendment Bill

New Delhi, July 19 (IBNS): Criticising the Union government's Right To Information (RTI) (Amendment) Bill 2018, which will be tabled in  parliament on Thursday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has said the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the centre believes in hiding truth from the people.

Rahul took to Twitter to say, "Every Indian has the right to know the truth. The BJP believes the truth must be hidden from the people and they must not question people in power. The changes proposed to the RTI will make it a useless Act. They must be opposed by every Indian."

Brought by the BJP-led NDA government, the bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on the second day of the parliament's monsoon session. The Opposition is against the bill, which proposes three changes to the existing Act.

The changes pertain to ranks, salaries, allowances and tenure of the Chief Information Commissioners and Information Commissioners of the Centre and the state, The Indian Express reported.

The Opposition said it will fight against the government's intent to "dilute" the act and will resist any amendment to the Act by the Centre.
