Modi in Singapore : Visits temples, unveils Mahatma Ganhi's plaque

Singapore, June 2 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday visited a mosque, a temple and a Buddha relic temple and museum on the last day of his visit to Singapore.

"Visited the Chulia mosque in Singapore. The mosque is one of the oldest in Singapore," he wrote on his twitter handle.

The PM also visited the Sri Mariamman temple, the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, which is one of the national monuments in the city-state.

"Blessed to have prayed at the beautiful Sri Mariamman Temple in Singapore. This Temple illustrates the vibrant cultural connect between India and Singapore," Modi tweeted.

He then went round the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum.

"Glimpses from the memorable visit to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum," Modi tweeted with a photograph of the temple posted on his page.

Earlier, Modi met former Singaporean premier and Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong.

He said he had a 'productive' meeting with Goh Chok Tong.

"Had a productive meeting with Emeritus Senior Minister Mr. Goh Chok Tong," Modi tweeted.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Modi unveiled a plaque marking the site where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed at the Clifford Pier in Singapore.

He also went to Clifford Pier and unveiled a plaque to commemorate the immersion of Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes in the country’s waters. In 1948, Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes had been sent to various parts of India and the world. This included Singapore.

On Friday, PM Modi had delivered the keynote address at Shangri-La Dialogue on national security. He talked about India’s relationship with China said that it is crucial for the future of Asia.

The PM  also visited the Changi Naval Base. He also went on-board the Indian Navy’s Shivalik class stealth frigate INS Satpura there.

He met and interacted with the officers and sailors on board.
