Srinagar, May 15 (IBNS) : A Border Security Force (BSF) constable was killed in a cross-border firing as Pakistani troopers violated ceasefire  along the international border in Jammu’s Samba sector on Monday night, media reports said.

The soldier has been identified as constable Devendra Singh.

Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on forward posts in the Manguchak area, which the Indian forces retaliated leading to heavy, exchange between the two sides for about an hour.

Constable Singh, who was hit by a bullet, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Monday night’s incident came barely 24 hours after BSF noticed suspicious movement of a group of five persons, believed to be terrorists and attempting to sneak into this side, along the IB in Hiranagar sector of nearby Kathua district, prompting a massive search operation and sounding of a high alert in Jammu.
