Former Maharashtra ATS chief Himanshu Roy commits suicide

Mumbai, May 11 (IBNS):  Former chief of Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) Himanshu Roy allegedly committed suicide on Friday by shooting himself at his residence in Mumbai, media reports said.

Roy was involved in several major investigations in his lifetime.

He was a 1988-batch IPS officer.

Roy shot himself at his residence with his service revolver, sources told The Times of India.

The actual cause behind his suicide is still not known.

According to some media reports, Roy was suffering from cancer.

Roy, who was serving as the Additional Director General of Police in Maharashtra, shot himself at around 1:40 pm, reports said.

He was declared dead when he was taken to Bombay Hospital in Marine Lines.

He had led the investigations into the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case.

According to reports, he was on a long leave on medical grounds.
