Five militants, four forces' personnel killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar, Mar 21 (IBNS): Two policemen and a soldier were killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and security forces at Halmatpora Kupwara in North Kashmir, police said.

Army claimed that it killed at least five militants in the area, since Tuesday afternoon however, the bodies of the militants have not been retrieved so far.

A police official said that two cops and a soldier were killed while two more policemen were injured in the Kupwara encounter.

The slain SOG men were identified as Deepak Pandit and Mohd Yusuf. One of the slain Territorial Army soldier was identified as Mohammad Ashraf.

Official added that the slain soldier belongs to Territorial Army.

Director General of Police DGP also confirmed the killing of only three militants so far in the encounter. In a tweet, the top police officer of the JK said that three militants have been killed so far.

The encounter started when a group of militants believed to be seven in number fired upon a joint team of army and SOG at Check Fatehkhan forests.

Intense firing is on between forces and the militants for past over an hour, said the official.
