Srinagar, Feb 23 (IBNS): Police have evacuated five hundred residents and shifted them to safer places in border areas of Uri in North Kashmir’s Barmaulla after Pakistan resorted to unprovoked cross-border shelling in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

According to police official, Pakistani soldiers have been resorted to intense shelling due to which several residential houses have suffered damages in border areas of Uri.

Sources said Pakistan targeted forward posts and civilian areas at Hatlanga, Churanda and Tika along the Line of Control (LoC) since Thursday morning.

The firefight continued till late in the evening and several houses were immensely damaged in the exchange, the intensity of which prompted authorities to move people living near the borders to safer regions.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Shesh Paul Vaid wrote on micro blogging website twitter, “Due to firing/shelling from across in border areas of Uri about 500 people migrate to safer areas. Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police are on spot and looking after the people,”.
