Surat, Dec 7 (IBNS): As the campaign for the Gujarat Assembly election reached the last day ahead of the Dec 9 polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday will address a rally in Surat.

Before addressing the rally, Modi is scheduled to meet the SC, ST members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.

At 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre.

Modi on Thursday will wrap up his two-week long campaign, which started on Nov 27.

Gujarat is in the election mode with several rallies by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi.

Modi, who addressed three rallies in the state on Wednesday, vehemently attacked the Congress over a number of issues.

One of the striking issues which was raised in the PM's voice was his allegation against senior Congress MP Kapil Sibal for linking Ram Mandir case with elections.

Modi questioned Sibal as to why is the Congress leader linking the Ram Mandir case with elections. "Congress MP Kapil Sibal argued in SC yesterday to postpone the hearing on Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya till 2019. Why does he have to link Ram Mandir with elections? Is such thinking proper? Congress should answer." the PM said.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the final hearing in the long-pending Ayodhya-Ram Janambhoomi case till February 8, 2018 after a specially constituted bench sat a day before the 25th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition, reports said.

A three-judge Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer will hear the case.

The BJP will fight the battle to defend the throne in Gujarat against the Congress-Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti alliance.

In several opinion polls conducted, it has been found the Congress will give a tough fight to the ruling BJP in the upcoming election.

The state poll will take place in two phases on Dec. 9 and Dec. 14.

The counting of votes will be held on Dec. 18.

The saffron-brigade is ruling the state since 1995.
