India Blooms News Service (IBNS) | | 14 Apr 2014, 10:14 am
Srinagar, Apr 12 (IBNS) An encounter between security personnel and militants, that started late Sunday, is still underway in Jammu and Kashmir, said reports on Monday.

According to reports, two militants are holed up at a locality in the state's summer capital Srinagar

Sources said forces had a specific input about the presence of militants in Ahmad Nagar area of Srinagar and they laid a cordon, some 15 km from Srinagar city.

As the forces narrowed the search, at least two militants fired at them, officials said.

A policeman from Special Operations Group, Qazi Maqsood, was injured in the initial exchange of fire and was shifted to SK Institute of Medical Sciences in neighboring Soura.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) spokesperson Kishore Prasad told IBNS that on specific  information the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched operation in the area.

He said one militant was killed so far and the firefight was on.

The operation was called off for the night and resumed in the morning.

This is the second firefight between militants and forces in the day in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Sunday morning militants attacked a ruling National Conference (NC) party worker killing his two police guards in South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Two militants were also killed following a gunfight. The attack was the first in Kashmir during Indian elections being held over five weeks.
