No question of corruption in Jay's business dealings: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Oct 13 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah defended his son Jay over the latter's alleged involvement in corruption, India Today reports said.

Defending his son, Shah, at Panchayat Aaj Tak, said: "There is no question of corruption in the business dealings of Jay (Shah). The business was of commodity trade which is high value low profit venture. If a company's turn over becomes Rs 1 crore, its profit does not become Rs 1 crore."

"After achieving a turnover of Rs 80 crore, his company suffered a loss of Rs 1.5 crore. Despite this turnover, he did not earn profit. All the payments were made through cheques. There is no question of money laundering," he added.

Shah's reaction came after an article on The Wire, titled 'The Golden Touch of Jay Amit Shah', which was published on October 8, claimed that junior Shah's company recorded a 16,000-times increase in turnover in just one year.

Jay Shah's company has allegedly recorded a turnover of Rs 80.5 crore in 2015-16.

However, issuing a statement, Jay has denied all such allegations.

Jay Shah has also slapped a 100-crore defamation case on the website over aspersions of corruption.

The BJP, on Sunday, defended its president's son as the development has already started a political battle between the ruling saffron party and the Congress.

Defending Jay, railway minister and the BJP leader, Piyush Goyal, said: "We reject any allegation sought to be made against Shri Amit Shah's son Jay Shah."

He said: "We believe in legitimate and honest transactions. We don't take umbrage in falsehood as the Congress is known to do."

Congress leader Kapil Sibal, a couple of days ago, attacked the BJP over the issue and was quoted as saying in a press conference: "How can a company with no stock, no inventory, no assets, has a turnover of 80 crores? Isn’t it surprising? And suddenly after a change in the government."

The Congress leader demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiation of an investigation into the matter.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah's son Jay Shah's involvement in corruption.

Attacking the PM, Gandhi tweeted: "Modi, Jai Shah-ate ' exceeds '.Were you the Watchmen or the partner? You should say something."
