Priyanka Chopra apologises for calling Sikikim 'troubled with insurgency' in TIFF

Mumbai, Sep 14 (IBNS): Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra apologised to the Sikkim government after facing criticisms for calling Sikkim, a state "troubled with insurgency", at Toronto International Film Festival few days ago, media reports said.

The actress and her production company, Purple Pebbles, apologised to Sikkim's tourism minister, Ugen T Gyatso, reports said.

Pahuna: The Little Visitors is a film about two kids and their perspectives about refugee crisis.

Gyatso, in an interview to News X, said that Priyanka along with her production company, director of film Pahuna: The Little Visitors, that premiered in TIFF this year, apologised to him.

The tourism minister was also critical of Priyanka for calling Pahuna: The Little Visitors, which she has produced, the first film from the north eastern state.

Gyatso termed Priyanka's claim as "wrong".

Priyanka made the comment in an interview to ET Canada on September 7 while speaking about her film Pahuna: The Little Visitors, that premiered in TIFF 2017.

"This is a Sikkimese film. Sikkim is a small state in the north east of India which never had a film industry or any one who made films from there and this is the first film ever that has come out of that region because it is very troubled with insurgency and like troubled in situations....." she said in the interview.
