New Delhi, Aug 11 (IBNS): Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran and Union minister Venkaiah Naidu took oath as the Vice President of India on Friday.

Naidu became the 13th Vice President of the country.

He succeeded Hamid Ansari who held the portfolio for two terms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the VP in Rajya Sabha saying that he is an ordinary man and a farmer's son. He also said: "Naidu has a good connectivity with people."

Naidu, who was BJP-led NDA's candidate for the VP poll, won against Opposition's candidate and former West Bengal Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.
