Voting for Vice Presidential election begins

India Blooms News Service | | 05 Aug 2017, 11:22 am
New Delhi, Aug 5 (IBNS): Voting for India's Vice Presidential election began on Saturday morning.

The contest of the V-P poll is between NDA backed Venkaiah Naidu and Opposition's joint candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

BJP veteran Naidu was the former Information and Broadcasting minister of the Modi government, who also held various other portfolios.

Former Governor of West Bengal, Gopal Krishna Gandhi, was nominated by the 18 opposition parties as their candidate for the V-P poll.

Naidu is likely to become the next V-P of the country as the BJP-led NDA dominates the share of electoral votes.

The Vice President will be indirectly elected by the members of the Parliament (both the houses)  by the system of proportional representation in secret ballots.
