M Venkaiah Naidu wishes Smriti Irani as she takes over additional charge of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting

New Delhi, July 18 (IBNS): M Venkaiah Naidu‏, who has filed his nomination for the upcoming Vice-Presidential polls, on Tuesday greeted Smriti Irani as she took charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

"I convey my blessings and best wishes to Smt @smritiirani as she takes on the mantle of @MIB_India," Naidu tweeted with a picture with Irani.

Naidu also met former Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee to seek his blessings before the elections.

"Visited Sh Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji at his residence, and took his blessings after filing my nomination to the #VicePresidential post," Naidu said.

Union Minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday took additional charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

After taking charge, Smriti Irani tweeted: "With blessings of PM @narendramodi ji, took Additional Charge of @MIB_India. My gratitude to Hon. Prime Minister for his continued guidance."

As Venkaiah Naidu resigned as Central minister to contest the upcoming Vice Presidential polls, Union Ministers  Smriti Irani and Narendra Singh Tomar  got additional charges of information and broadcasting and urban development ministries respectively.

Naidu, a top BJP leader, resigned on Monday late evening after he was chosen vice presidential candidate by the NDA.

His resignation has been accepted by the President.

"The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, from the Council of Ministers, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution," read a government statement.

Naidu has already filed his nomination.

Tomar, meanwhile, will be holding the additional charge of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

"Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, in addition to his existing portfolios," read a government statement.

" Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani, Cabinet Minister, shall be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in addition to her existing portfolio," it said.
