Achal Kumar Joti appointed as Chief Election Commissioner

New Delhi, July 4 (IBNS): Achal Kumar Joti has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission, officials said on Tuesday.

"The President is pleased to appoint the senior-most Election Commissioner, Shri Achal Kumar Joti as the Chief Election Commissioner in the Election Commission," read a government statement.

Achal Kumar Joti will assume the charge of the office of Chief Election Commissioner with effect from July 6, 2017 consequent upon demitting the Office of the Chief Election Commissioner by Dr. Nasim Zaidi on July 5, officials said.
