PM Modi meets his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa

Lisbon, June 24 (IBNS): Arriving in Portugal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met his Portuguese counterpart Antonio Costa on Saturday.

Modi was received at the airport by Portuguese Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silva.

This is the first ever bilateral visit to Portugal by an Indian PM.

MEA Spokesperson Gopal Baglay tweeted: "A relationship marked by historical ties and strong partnership. PM @antoniocostapm welcomes PM @narendramodi at Palacio das Necessidades."

In another tweet, he said: "Advancing bilateral engagements. PM @narendramodi & PM @antoniocostapm discuss ways to further intensify bilateral relations."

Modi's  Portugal visit would precede his trip to the US on June 26.

He will be on a day's visit the Netherlands on June 27.
