"471 persons killed in communal clash in Assam since 2001"
Replying a query during the first day of the Assam Legislative Assembly, state Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain said on behalf of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who also holds the Home Department, that since 2001 a total of 471 persons were killed and 263 others were injured in communal clashes in the state.
“In 2012, a total of 109 people were killed and 140 others injured in the Bodo-Muslim communal clash in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baska, Udalguri and Dhubri district,” the Assam minister said.
On other hand, 106 persons had lost their lives in the Karbi-Dimasa communal clash in 2005, where 19 others injured, Hussain said.
During the period of October 2003 to April 2004, 98 people were killed and 28 others injured in the Kuki-Karbi communal clash in Karbi Anglong district, the Minister said.
Hussain said in 2009, a total of 73 persons killed and 29 injured in the Zemi Naga-Dimasa clash in Dima Hasao district.
The minister said that during the Hmar-Dimasa communal clash in 2003, a total of 57 persons were killed and 29 others injured.
During the period of December 2013 to January 2014, a total of 16 people were killed and two others injured in the Karbi-Rengma clash in Karbi Anglong district.
12 persons were killed and 16 others injured in the Garo-Rabha communal clash in 2001.
