New Delhi, Apr 17 (IBNS) : The Delhi police on Monday registered a criminal case against AIADMK chief VK Sasikala's nephew TTV Dinakaran on the charge of attempting to bribe the Election Commission of India, The Times of India reported..

Dinakaran allegedly tried to bribe the poll panel to get its verdict in favour of the Sasikala faction in a tussle with the rival camp  for the party symbol.

Sasikala's faction contested a by-elections on the hat symbol after the EC froze the two leaves symbol+ of the AIADMK acknowledging the split in the party,

The development is expected to spell more trouble for Sasikala, already convicted and jailed on the ground of corruption and getting increasingly alienated within the party, having been served a 'quit' notice by a number of senior AIADMK leaders.

According to reports, the  police action comes in the wake of arrest of an alleged middleman named Sukesh Chandrasekhar from Hyatt hotel on Sunday night.

Police said at least  Rs 1.3 crore has been recovered from Chandrasekhar, who was allegedly planning to use the money  to bribe EC officials.

The ToI quoted police as saying that a total of around Rs 50 crores were to be paid as bribe.
