NCST orders probe into Chhattisgarh farmer's death allegedly under suspicious circumstances

New Delhi, Mar 27 (IBNS): The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs said on Monday that the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary (CS) and Director General of Police (DGP) of Chhattisgarh to inquire into the death of Jai Lal Rathiya.

It has been alleged that Rathiya died under suspicious conditions on Mar 17.

NCST has also dispatched its team to Raigarh in Chhattisgarh

Taking sub-moto cognizance of the case and considering it a serious one, the Commission has directed the CS and DGP to investigate the matter, including available forensic evidences and submit their report at the earliest.

Earlier the Commission on the directives of its Chairman, Nand Kumar Sai, had directed the District Collector and Superintendant of Police of Raigarh District to conduct a fair inquiry into the death of Ratiya and to preserve his ashes till the investigation is over.

A section of the media had reported that Rathiya died in mysterious circumstances on March 17, 2017.

It was also reported that he has brought to the notice of the administration that 300 acre. of land belonging to the ST’s in Kharsia area was illegally transferred.

The media also reported that he was fighting against land mafia and was cremated without postmortem.

At that time, the Congress Party had raised the issue in the BJP-led state legislative assembly demanding a probe into Rathiya's death,according to media reports.
