Guwahati, Feb 27 (IBNS): Security forces on Monday apprehended a NSCN (IM) militant in Arunachal Pradesh.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, based on specific intelligence about presence of one cadre trying to terrorize and attempting forced extortion in Longding town, the Longding Battalion under the aegis of DAO division conducted operation at Niausa village on Monday evening and nabbed the militant.

The nabbed militant was identified as Akha Wangsu, one self styled lance coporal of the outfit.

Security forces recovered a pistol and several rounds of live ammunition in possession from him.

“He admitted allegiance to NSCN (IM) and further divulged that he has been an active part of the banned outfit since August 2015 during preliminary interrogation,” Konwer said.

The security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.
