Palaniswamy wins ruckus-marred trust vote in Tamil Nadu

Chennai, Feb 18 (IBNS) Amid adjournments and violence, Sasikala loyalist Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Palaniswamy won the trust vote for his newly installed Government, as 122 MLAs voted in his favour in the 234-member state Assembly.

The Speaker declared Palaniswami won the motion with 122 votes.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly was adjourned twice on Saturday  as violence and lawlessness continued with a heckled Speaker being escorted out of the House.

DMK working president MK Stalin led his MLAs to protest before the Raj Bhavan.

Unruly Opposition members had been demanding secret ballot, which  Speaker P Dhanapal  rejected.

The Speaker  had ordered eviction of the DMK MLAs for the trouble and destruction they indulged in creating a bedlam, failed to get it executed.

The situation went to such a pass that police had to move in.

Chief Minister  Palaniswamy now has the support of 122, excluding the Speaker, after another AIADMK legislator withdrew his support to Palaniswamy.
