Dearness Allowance is a donation, depends on Govt wish: WB Administrative Tribunal

Kolkata, Feb 16 (IBNS): West Bengal State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) on Thursday observed that Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees is just a kind donation from the state and government could announce DA whenever they want to provide it to its workers.

While hearing a petition, filed by Confederation of Government Employees demanding due DA from the state, a division bench of SAT, comprising of its chairman Amit Talukder and another member Anup Kumar Chanda, said that government employees don't have legal right to demand hike in DA from the state government and rejected the petition.

However, petitioners said that challenging the SAT's judgement, they would move to the Calcutta High Court in next week.

West Bengal government employees are currently lagging behind almost 48% DA from the central government, according to reports.
