Staging coup Akhilesh Yadav declares himself SP chief

Lucknow, Jan 1 (IBNS): In what seems like a political coup, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav declared himself the chief of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in front of around 5000 party workers during Sunday's meet.

Speaking at the national convention of SP, party leader Ram Gopal Yadav declared Akhilesh Yadav as the party supremo.

He proposed that Mulayam Singh should play the role of mentor in the party.

Making the announcement in full support of the workers assembled at the meet, Ram Gopal said : "We give Akhilesh Yadav the authority to reconstitute the parliamentary board, all units."

Ram Gopal also proposed that Shivpal Yadav and Amar Singh be removed from the party.

The Akhilesh Yadav camp accuses Amar Singh of instigating Mulayam Singh against his son.

This announcement came minutes after Mulayam Singh Yadav stated that the national convention called by his son Akhilesh Yadav, is "against the rules of the party."

He said there is a need for strict action regarding the same.

On Saturday, Mulayam Singh revoked the expulsion of Akhilesh and senior leader Ram Gopal Yadav following a peace mediated by Azam Khan in Lucknow.

State party president Shivpal Singh Yadav on Saturday announced that Akhilesh and Ram Gopal have been taken back into the party following Mulayam Singh's orders.

Shivpal Singh, Mulayam's brother and Akhilesh's uncle, who, media has often reported as the person behind the father-son rift, said on Saturday, "Now we will all fight UP polls united and will form the government with majority. Now all misunderstandings are over and we will discuss all the things again and take decisions. We will discuss on ticket distribution," reported NDTV.

Earlier on Saturday morning, Akhilesh Yadav invited all his party legislators to his official residence and over 200 legislators turned up, according to media reports.

The chief minister claimed he had the support of nearly 200 MLAs with him, which probably forced Mulayam to back down, reported the media.
