Australian High Commissioner condoles Jayalalithaa's death

Chennai, Dec 6 (IBNS): Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India,mourned the demise of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday.

"A sad day. Deepest condolences to the people of Tamil Nadu and to the family of CM #Jayalalithaa," Sidhu tweeted.

The  Australian Consulate-General here said it will remain closed until further notice.

"The Government of Tamil Nadu has declared a seven-day period of mourning. The Australian Consulate-General will remain closed until further notice," read the official website of the Australian Consulate-General in Chennai.

Jayalalithaa passed away at a Chennai hospital on Monday.

She was 68.
