Centre deploys army in Bengal toll plazas without information: Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Dec 1 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that Indian Army personnel had been deployed at two toll plazas on a national highway in the state limits, without informing the state government.

During a press conference here at state's main administrative building at Nabanna, Mamata Banerjee said, "The Central government has deployed army men at Dankuni toll plaza in Hooghly district and Palsit toll plaza in Burdwan district without informing our government."

"The Centre should have informed us what was the need to deploy army to these locations," Banerjee added.

"When the country is facing an undeclared financial emergency due to the demonetisation, Central government is trying to impose general emergency by deploying army," she further said.

Bengal Chief Minister said that the army deployment without state's knowledge was a terrible decision.

"We are living in terrible times. This is a black day," Banerjee said.

"Chief Secretary is writing to the Centre and I will approach the President regarding deployment of Army without our knowledge," she added.

Meanwhile, TMC's national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Derek O'Brien posted a video on Twitter, where it was seen that few personnel of Indian Army was observing vehicles' movement at a toll plaza and noting down those numbers.

However, no reaction, regarding the matter, has been received from the Indian Army so far.
