New Delhi, Nov 19 (IBNS) : The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a first information report against controversial Islamic religious leader Zakir Naik and conducted raids at ten locations of Maharashtra linked to the Islamic Research Foundation, run by him, media reports said.

Naik has been in the centre of controversy having sleuths getting him under scanner  after the Bangladeshi government accused him of making speeches inciting some of the terrorists who attacked a Dhaka cafe in July, killing 20 people.

The raids on the premises belonging to his organisation were conducted on Saturday morning.

Naik, 50, is is currently in Saudi Arabia. He has refused to return to India.

In an open letter to the Indian government in September,  Naik sought clarification on the charges levelled against him.

He alleged that Indian Muslims were under an attack.
