PM Modi warns of 'surgical strikes' against black money

India Blooms News Service | | 23 Oct 2016, 07:45 am
Vadodara, Oct 23 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday referred to the term 'surgical strikes' in a different context as he highlighted the government's moves to fight against black money.

"We had given some time to those who had generated black money (to declare the amount). You all will be happy to know that Rs. 65,000 crore in black money returned to mainstream as payment of tax and penalty," Modi said here.

"Rs. 36,000 crore, which  was leaking, has been stopped," he said.

Modi said: "Besides, Rs. 65,000 crore of black money has also been unearthed."

"It should be noted that Rs 1 lakh crore has been brought back without even launching surgical strikes," he said.

The Prime Minister said he wondered how much money can be unearthed by launching the surgical strike in the area.

Commandos of the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes across the Line of Control on Sept 28-29 to destroy terrorist launch pads in the Pak occupied Kashmir.

The strikes took place days after the terror attack on Uri Army camp in which 19 soldiers were killed.
