Philanthropist Parmeshwar Godrej dies in Mumbai
She was 70.
Parmeshwar was under prolonged treatment for degenerative lung disease.
She was described as one of India's premier socialites and power brokers.
Parmeshwar was known for her work combating AIDS in India through the Heroes Project, an initiative she launched in 2004 with Hollywood actor Richard Gere and support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.
She is survived by her husband and three children Nisa, Pirojsha, and Tanya Dubash.
Mourning her death, former Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan tweeted: "Devastated by death of close friend, Parmeshwar Godrej, last night: she was always there for me in my most difficult times."
He said: "May her husband Adhi and her children find strength to cope with this loss."
Actress Priyaka Chopra posted: "A woman with solid strength integrity and grace..I cannot believe you are not with us any more Parmeshwar."
