Sonowal govt dissolves two districts announced by previous Congress govt

Guwahati, Oct 7 (IBNS): Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal- led Assam government on Friday dissolved two new districts which were announced by the previous Congress led state government.

ssam transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said the decision was taken in the state government cabinet meeting held at Dispur on Friday.

“The cabinet dissolved South Kamrup and East Kamrup districts which were earlier announced by the previous state government. But the cabinet had decided to create three new sub-divisions instead of the dissolved districts,” the minister said.

The Congress led state government had announced seven new districts last year and present Sonowal led government had announced a new district in the state this year.

Now the total districts of the state had reduced to 33 from 35.

On the other hand, the cabinet had approved to take Rs 1240 crore as loan from NABARD under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF).

The minister said that, the cabinet decided to allocate Rs 500 crore for development in 25,425 villages in the state in 2016-17 financial year.

In next five years, a total of Rs 30,000 crore will be spent for infrastructural development in 25,425 villages in the state.

“The cabinet also decided to distribute 61,100 nos shallow tube well among the farmers,” the minister said.
