No Ram temple stir right now: Vishwa Hindu Prashad

Patna, Sep 6 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): The Vishwa Hindu Prashad (VHP) has decided not to rake up the issue of Ram temple construction at Ayodhya till the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are over, indicating the growing differences among the Hindu nationalist outfits in the country.

“The VHP is committed to the construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya but we will not launch any agitation in this regard until the assembly elections are over in UP,” VHP’s International Working President Praveen Togadia told the media on Tuesday.

The UP elections are due early next year.

“We will consider launching the agitation only after the elections are over,” Togadia added.

The development brings to the fore the growing differences among the Hindutva outfits in India.

The VHP had recently expressed annoyance over the statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the cow vigilante groups and asked him to withdraw his remarks.

“I get so angry at those who are into the Gau-Rakshak business. A Gau-Bhakt (cow devotee) is different, Gau Seva (cow protection) is different. I have seen that some people are into crimes all night and wear the garb of Gau Rakshaks in the day,” the PM had said, answering a question at the interactive session to mark two years of his MyGov initiative in August.

The PM had added, “70-80 per cent will be those who indulge in anti-social activities and try to hide their sins by pretending to be Gau Rakshaks. If they are true protectors, they should realise that most cows die because of plastic, not slaughter. They should stop cows from eating plastic.”

The PM made these comments shortly after the cow vigilante groups were blamed for flogging four Dalits in Gujarat which caused a nation-wide outrage.

VHP reacted by stating that the PM’s move would lead to more cow slaughters in the country.

“PM’s statement is an insult to the entire Hindu community as he has referred to 80 per cent of ‘gau rakshas’ as ‘anti-socials," Togadia was quoted as saying in the media in August.

The construction of the Ram temple has been a key poll issue for the BJP in every election, and keeping in view its vote potential, the party has tried hard to raise the issue in almost every election to win the support of the Hindu voters.
