Andhra Pradesh does a Gujarat, dalit men tied and beaten up

Vijaywada, Aug 10 (IBNS): After atrocities on Dalit men in Gujarat by cow vigilantes for the alleged possession of cow skin, an encore took place in Andhra Pradesh's Vijaywada as two men were tied to a coconut tree and allegedly thrashed for skinning a dead cow, reports said.

The incident took place on Monday in Amalapuram.

The victims are identified as siblings, Mokati Elisa and Lazar, NDTV reported.

About a 100 people agitated against the siblings and took matter in their hands, accusing them of killing and skinning the animal.

Two of their attackers have been identified as Gangadhar and Ramana, the report said.

The brothers are presently recuperating in a hospital, though one of them sustained critical injuries.

As atrocities against the backward class is on the rise in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had held a rally in the nearby Telangana state last weekend, has urged people to stop torturing dalits.

He was quoted in the media as saying, "If you have a problem, if you feel like attacking someone, attack me, not my Dalit brothers. If you want to shoot anyone, shoot me, not my Dalit brothers."

Modi also said that such mock vigilantes are diving the nation and should be isolated.
