Sidhu would have spoken against drugs in Punjab: Kejriwal on Sidhu's BJP exit

New Delhi, July 25 (IBNS): Keeping rumours alive of former BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu joining the Aam Aadmi Party, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Monday came in support of the former Indian cricketer and said that he would have exposed the drug problems that Punjab is facing, a key campaign agenda for the Delhi- based party, which seeks to capture power from SAD in the upcoming elections.

"Sidhu wud hv spoken against drugs, if he went to Punjab. BJP prevented him. Who was BJP trying to protect? Shocking," Kejriwal tweeted on Monday.

Meanwhile, the former MP said that he decided to relinquish his party and RS post as he was asked to stay away from Punjab, his home state, something he said was impossible for him as he rated hi state higher than his party.

"How can I do that? I cannot leave my homeland Punjab for self gain. A bird does not even leave the tree in which he has built nest. I love my native land and I cannot do that," he said.

He said he won elections four times from Punjab because people trusted him, his demeanor and for his work.

To a question if he is Chief Ministerial candidate for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he said he wanted to serve only Punjab, avoiding any comment on his joining AAP.

Sidhu's wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who herself is also a BJP member, however, told media earlier that she will not follow her husband's footstep and remains with the party.

According to media reports,  Sidhu, 52, could join the Aam Aadmi Party. The speculation was boosted by Arvind Kejriwal's tweet : "People can give their rt hand for an RS seat. Ever seen a sitting RS MP resigning to save his state? I salute Sidhu ji for his courage."

Sidhu has been reportedly upset with the BJP since 2014, when his parliamentary constituency of Amritsar was assigned to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who lost the election.
