Congress has habit of destabilising Governments : Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, July 19 (IBNS) : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday alleged that the Congress "has the habit" of destabilising democratically elected Governments and denied that the BJP had any role in the political crisis in Uttaranchal and Arunachal Pradesh.

"It is the Congress that has the habit of destabilising democratically elected and popular governments. They have done it more than 100 times since independence," he said in the Rajya Sabha while reacting to the Congress attack.

"The crisis in Uttarakhand and Arunchal Pradesh arose due to the internal fight within the Congress party. The BJP has nothing to do with this," Singh said.

"If there is a hole in your boat then no point blaming the water," the Minister added.

Earlier, Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government, in its pursuit for a "Congress-mukt Bharat," has resorted to take "backdoor" measures to topple state Governments.

"It is not in favour of the people and the constitution," he said.

In both Uttaranchal and Arunachal Pradesh, the Governments, run by the Congress were deposed through proclamation of President's rule following rebellion by a section of party legislators. However, the party came back to power in both the states following separate court verdicts.
