Mumbai, June 1 (IBNS) A massive fire that broke out at the Adharwadi dumping yard in Kalyan has come under control on Wednesday, though fire fighters are still battling to douse the blaze completely, reports said.

According to fire officials,  12 more water tankers were pressed into service since the water from a nearby bore-well had run out.

The blaze started around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, and it took more than seven hours to control it.  More than 14 fire engines and 12 water tankers were pressed into service on the first day.

Thick smoke enveloped the area, creating a thick haze allover and causing breathing problems among the residents of at least five localities.

More than 2,000 people were moved to safer places as smoke and smog filled the area.
