Srinagar, Jan 10 (IBNS) Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi on Sunday met Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar and paid homage to her father, the late Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who passed away on Thursday.

Sayeed passed away in New Delhi on Thursday. His daughter Mehbooba will take oath as the next chief minister.

Sonia Gandhi was to visit the official Fairview residence of Mufti in Srinagar to offer her condolences.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is also scheduled to visit her in the afternoon.

The state is under Governor's Rule now.

After the death of Mufti Muhammad Syed on Thursday,  it became clear that Governor's rule will be imposed in the state as PDP president Mehbooba Mufti was insisting on not taking oath as the new chief minister before the end of four-day mourning for her father.
